PRESIDENT OF INDIA PRESENTS
NATIONAL AWARD FOR TEACHERS
TO MARTINIAN DAVID HILTON

David is the nephew of Mrs. Durnford, who ran the best typing school in Calcutta (not Kolkata then) between the 60's and 70's. In 1975 David's parents established the Hilton School in what was then a suburb and the basmati belt of Dehra Dun. David played a major role in building up the school and has been the Principal for many years now. His forte has been sensitising his school to ecological and civic concerns.

In January 2010, David received the De Rozio Award for his contribution to Indian education. This award is made annually by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi and was instituted about 10 years ago to encourage educators in Council Schools.

He received the national Award for teachers on the 5th September 2010, from the President of India in the presence of the Minister of HRD (Education) Mr. Kapil Sibal. The National Award for Teachers is made by the Government of India, on the recommendation of the Examination Boards to which schools are affiliated. David was nominated for the award by the Council for the Indian School Certificate examinations.

The recognition David has received is well deserved because his school works with children from low and middle income families and gives them a disciplined, well rounded education.

David Hilton is an alumnus of LaMartiniere, Kolkata,
