2009 Founder's Day - Perth, Australia.

Founder’s Day & 24th anniversary dinner dance

This milestone event was celebrated amid the atmospheric and spacious surroundings of the West Australian Golf Club, Mt Yokine on Saturday 12th September 2009. A wonderful evening and an excellent dinner once again proved the choice a good one. About 85 people attended to honour the Founder and acknowledge the 24th birthday of the Association.

The function commenced at 7.00 p.m. Guests were treated with a welcome drinks on arrival and soon the room filled with chatter as people greeted each other and exchanged news.

The usual formalities for Founder’s Day celebrations were observed, with Clayton Roberts saying ‘Grace’ and Val Page leading the assembly in the reading of the school Prayer.

The President of the OMA, Owen Hudleston extended a warm welcome to all those present especially Guests of Honour Sid & Susan Waller from the Philippines, Val and Pat Page from Queensland and Bob Jordan from Sydney. Owen reflected on the history of the OMA and noted that the responsibility of running an Association was now proving too much for aging committee members who had contributed years of dedicated effort. Owen advised that unless someone was prepared to take over the reins the OMA would be wound down in 2010. He acknowledged the tremendous contribution made by Mike and Wendy Blanchette and of the various committees who were responsible for the success of the Association.

Among the guests were the familiar faces of our senior members Lorna De Sanges, Sybil Hudleston, Ron & Pat Bentley, Wilmot Simeon, Keith Gash, Bert & Joy Nagle, Frank & Nina Carter.

The guests danced to the popular music of the talented duo Harvey & Karina of ‘Klas Works’. Mike Blanchette led the choir in a rousing rendition of the school song.

Rod Simeons our MC once again guided the evenings’ proceedings with a masterly blend of wit and formality. Thank you Rod for all the years of emceeship which has delighted the audience and maintained our traditions.

Guest of Honour Sid Waller spoke about his long association with the OMA as a member and editor of the fine newsletter. Sid spoke of his life in the Philippines and of his devotion to his beloved wife Susan.

As all good things must end, the curtain finally came down on at midnight. The guests departed filled with many happy memories and the Committee deserve to be congratulated for organizing yet another wonderful Founder’s Day celebration.
